Welcome To Nursing At LHSC

We Believe...

In a Philosophy of Patient-Centred Care
Following a Patient-Centred Care Model provides higher levels of patient satisfaction, which, in turn, enhances a nurse's level of job satisfaction and leads to a more rewarding career.

In a Culture of Lifelong Learning
As a teaching and research centre in both adult and children's medicine, LHSC offers a wide range of educational opportunities. More than 50 educational institutions have affiliations with LHSC, including London's own University of Western Ontario and Fanshawe College. Each year, more than 1,000 students and postgraduate trainees study with our expert staff.

In an Environment of Caring and Respect
Our nurses are well recognized and appreciated at all levels. This is reflected in our orientation programs, in the support of their dedicated colleagues, and in the feedback from our patients and their families, and from the London community at large.

In a Commitment to Advanced Nursing Practice
By fostering an environment that is highly supportive of the Advanced Practice Nurse role, we provide numerous opportunities for developing initiatives in evidence-based practice, clinical pathways, ongoing education and expertise development. As a result, we have been able to attract many nurses to an advanced practitioner role across the organization.

That Quality of Work Life Is a Priority
LHSC puts a high priority on helping staff achieve a balance between their personal and professional needs and demands, making it possible to pursue a challenging career and enjoy work-life balance at the same time.

That Nurses Are an Integral Part of Our Health-Care Team
LHSC follows a collaborative practice model, through which nurses are professional partners on multi-disciplinary teams.

In a Family-Friendly Environment
With an affiliated, extended-hours daycare facility, LHSC is definitely "family friendly" ... not to mention that London boasts a children's museum and a children's festival along with many other child-oriented activities.

In a Commitment to Education for Nurses
Nursing staff are given extensive orientation as they begin to work in the various areas of care, with the length of orientation varying according to the unit and the individual nurse's needs. All new nurses take part in preceptorship programs, and most units have clinical educators and advanced practice nurses to further support professional development via on-site programs, technology training updates, and more. Funding support opportunities, and bursaries are available for continuing education, including post-RN and master's programs.

Together we care, we learn, we discover.
