Our Program

Our Social Workers are available to assist you and your family with any difficulties that you might experience from your child’s hospitalization or adjustment to a medical condition.

Social Workers are members of the health care team, trained in providing individual, couple, family, and group therapy.

All Social Workers have a Master of Social Work degree. They are registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

What to Expect

Our health care team provides assessments, counselling, discharge planning services, information and education.

You can talk to one of our Social Workers if you have any concerns about:

  • Adjustment to illness and treatment
  • Relationship and family issues
  • Stress and conflict
  • Grief and loss
  • End of life care issues
  • Parenting issues
  • Discharge planning, making connections to hospital and community-based resources, and home supports
  • Communication needs and issues with the health care team
  • Issues related to physical, emotional and sexual abuse, and neglect

Internship, Education & Research

Children’s Hospital is a teaching facility. The Social Work department provides student placements and is involved in various aspects of research. For more information, please contact the Social Work office, 519-685-8500 Extension. 33131.

Social Workers are an integral part of the educational sessions and ongoing teaching offered through Children's Hospital for allied healthcare professionals, nursing and medical staff and the community.
