Cardiac Surgery Recovery Unit

The Cardiac Surgery Recovery Unit (CSRU) is a specialized intensive care unit for cardiac surgery patients immediately following surgery. People undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting, heart valve repair or replacement, heart transplant or other heart surgery, come to the Cardiac Surgery Recovery Unit to be closely monitored and cared for. A team of health care professionals with critical care and cardiac expertise use the latest technology and medications to support a safe post operative stay.

London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) in London, Ontario, has a 14-bed Cardiac Surgery Recovery Unit at the University Hospital location. The London Health Sciences Centre is affiliated with the University of Western Ontario and is a teaching facility. With seven cardiac surgeons operating five or more days per week, this London unit has an average of 115 patients admitted and discharged per month. Health Care Professionals on the team in the unit include critical care certified physicians, nurses, and respiratory therapists, along with support team members such as physiotherapists, dietitians, and social work.
