5IP Cardiology at University Hospital added to list of clinical units involved with COVID-19 outbreak

MEDIA STATEMENT

For Immediate Release:
December 5, 2020

As of December 5, University Hospital, 5IP Cardiology and cardiology offices will be included in the clinical units involved with the current COVID-19 outbreak. All additional outbreak measures have been in place on the Cardiology unit since November 28 and these cases associated with this outbreak are linked to that timeframe.

Unit-level outbreaks for COVID-19 are declared, in partnership with the Middlesex-London Health Unit, as soon as there are two or more confirmed positive cases among patients or staff that could have possibly been acquired on an inpatient unit.

London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is working closely with the Middlesex-London Health Unit and our Infection Prevention and Control team to respond to this latest outbreak. Additional information about our UH COVID-19 outbreak measures is available on our public website. LHSC remains committed to doing everything within our power to help resolve the outbreak situation at University Hospital.

Any individuals with urgent cardiac concerns should not delay seeking immediate care. LHSC’s emergency departments at both University and Victoria Hospitals remain open and safe for care.

Dr. Adam Dukelow, Chief Medical Officer, London Health Sciences Centre, will be joining the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s media briefing on Monday, Dec. 7, and can address any additional questions at that time.
