COVID-19 outbreak declared on U4 Medicine 1 at LHSC’s University Hospital

For Immediate Release:
March 12, 2021

As of March 12, a COVID-19 Outbreak has been declared on U4 Medicine 1 (also known as 4IP) at London Health Sciences Centre’s (LHSC) University Hospital. At this time, there are less than five patients, zero staff, and zero deaths associated with this outbreak.

As London and Middlesex have moved through different COVID-19 restrict levels, LHSC did not loosen the outbreak and precautions measures that have been in place throughout the organization since November 28

Unit-level outbreaks for COVID-19 are declared, in partnership with the Middlesex-London Health Unit, as soon as there are two or more confirmed positive cases among patients or staff that could have possibly been acquired on an inpatient unit.

LHSC is working closely with the Middlesex-London Health Unit and our Infection Prevention and Control team to respond to the outbreak at UH and remains committed to doing everything within our power to help resolve this outbreak situation at University Hospital.

Any individuals with urgent medical concerns should not delay seeking immediate care. LHSC’s emergency departments at both University and Victoria Hospitals remain open and safe for care.
