Dr. Eric Winquist


I completed medical school at the University of Alberta in 1986, followed by medical oncology training at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, and graduate training in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University. 

I am a Professor in the Departments of Oncology, Medicine, and Otolaryngology at the Schulich School of Medicine, University of Western Ontario in London. I completed my residency in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology at the University of Toronto, and MSc in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University.  Currently I am Medical Director of the Genitourinary Disease Site Team at the London Regional Cancer Program, London Health Sciences Centre, where I also practice as a consultant in Medical Oncology.  I am a past Program Director of the Medical Oncology Postgraduate Training Program in London, and am the London Subcontractor for the Princess Margaret Hospital Phase II Consortium (Early therapeutics development with phase 2 emphasis).  I received the Division of Medical Oncology Awards for Excellence in Teaching in 2005 and Excellence in Academics in 2006 from the Department of Oncology.

I am also a member of the Head and Neck Disease Site Group of the Cancer Care Ontario Program in Evidencebased Care, and am Vicechair of the Genitourinary Disease Site Group. I serve on the Clinical Trials Committee of the CCSRI NCIC CTG, and am a member of the NCIC CTG Head and Neck Working Group. I have been the national study chair on more than half a dozen phase II and III clinical trials in genitourinary and head and neck cancer, and the local principal investigator on dozens more. My current main research interests are health services research, new anticancer drug development, tumor markers and cancer prevention.
