Neuromuscular disorders are conditions that affect the nerves, the connection between nerves and muscles, or the muscles themselves. These conditions can present in a variety of ways, including muscle weakness, numbness, fatigue, or pain, and encompass a wide spectrum of diagnoses.
Common reasons for referral to our clinic include myopathies, myasthenia gravis, peripheral neuropathies, motor neuron diseases, and hereditary neuropathies.
Our goal is to provide comprehensive, compassionate care tailored to each patient’s needs. This may involve detailed diagnostic evaluation, medical treatment, and coordination of supportive therapies. Depending on individual circumstances, care may include physiotherapy or occupational therapy, consultation with other medical specialists, genetic counselling, and access to rehabilitation aids such as braces or assistive devices. We also work closely with allied health professionals to provide medication education, nutritional guidance, and assessments for swallowing and breathing when needed.
Referral Criteria
Neuromuscular referrals are assessed on a case-by-case basis rather than according to specific referral criteria. These referrals will be reviewed by a physician to determine appropriateness.
