The Comprehensive Epilepsy “NP Led Surgical” Clinic is specifically designed for children diagnosed with focal onset epilepsy who may be candidates for potential curative or therapeutic epilepsy surgery. At this time, based on scientific evidence, surgery is the only possible curative procedure for epilepsy, and we are dedicated to exploring this pathway for these children.
These children will benefit from our state of the art, highly specialized comprehensive epilepsy surgical clinic at the Children’s Hospital, LHSC.
Nurse Practitioner, Michelle Kregel who specializes in Paediatric Epilepsy, works collaboratively with the Paediatric Epileptologists: Dr. Andrea Andrade and Dr. Maryam Nouri and the Paediatric Neurosurgeon, Dr. Sandrine deRibaupierre. At the clinic visit (virtual or in-person), you or your child will be seen by the Nurse Practitioner, who will create individual treatment plans, order specialized tests and carefully chosen anti-seizure medications for their potential epilepsy surgery journey.
These children will continue to be followed closely by their epileptologist and epilepsy team as well as neurosurgery team when needed throughout the entire process.
For families coming to the in-person clinic, please be aware that this may be a longer appointment (1-2 hours) as the Nurse Practitioner may decide that on certain visits, your child will be seen by other team members such as:
- Epileptologist
- Neurosurgeon
- Paediatric Epilepsy Fellow and Residents
- Registered Nurse
- Social Worker
- Child Life Specialist
