Make a difference by joining LHSC’s Board of Directors

Are you looking to share your expertise while giving back to your community? Consider applying to join the Board of Directors of London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) – one of Canada’s largest research-intensive acute care teaching hospitals and the largest employer in the region!

The LHSC Board of Directors is welcoming dedicated and community-minded individuals who want to make a difference and can help guide us towards achieving our vision of ‘Transforming health, together.’ We are actively seeking applicants with demonstrated senior leadership and board experience in the private or public sector and expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Finance and accounting (CPA designation is an asset);
  • Research;
  • Community and government relations;
  • Information technology and digital services;
  • Corporate law; and
  • Biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

Bilingual in French and English is considered an asset. Subject matter expertise pertaining to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI)/advancement of EDI related initiatives is also considered an asset.

The Board is made up of volunteers who guide the organization, set strategic direction, monitor organizational and strategic risk, and provide oversight for quality of care and financial viability. The Board provides governance to continue building on LHSC’s history of excellence in patient care, research and education across all its sites, including University Hospital, Victoria Hospital and Children’s Hospital.

It’s important to LHSC that our Board reflects the communities we serve. LHSC is committed to equity and diversity and welcomes applications from equity-denied groups, including Indigenous Peoples, racialized people, women, persons with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQIA+ persons. We strive to provide a safe, healthy and inclusive environment that inspires respect. Upon individual request, we will endeavor to remove any barrier to the recruitment process to reasonably accommodate candidates.

If you’re ready to make a difference to your community and join LHSC’s Board of Directors, please submit your expression of interest by emailing a cover letter and resume to Lisa Shanahan, Board Liaison Office, at Lisa.Shanahan@lhsc.on.ca by April 22, 2024. All expressions of interest are confidential.

Share your insights: Volunteer on an LHSC Board of Directors Committee

Are you looking to give back and improve health care? Consider volunteering as a Community Member with London Health Sciences Centre’s (LHSC) Board of Directors.

What’s the role?

The LHSC Board of Directors is currently inviting applications from candidates who are interested in volunteering as a Community Member on one of the following committees:

  • Quality and Culture Committee – Responsible for guiding and monitoring the organization in the areas of quality of care, patient safety, corporate safety culture and risk management;
  • Governance and Transition Committee – Responsible for assuring appropriate governance processes and procedures are in place to guide the organization; and
  • Children’s Hospital Committee – Responsible for guiding the governance of Children’s Hospital at LHSC (one of only four specialized children’s hospitals in Ontario).

Community Members serving on a Committee of the LHSC Board are not voting members of the LHSC Board of Directors. However, their input and experience are critical to guiding the Board in its governance of LHSC – one of Canada’s largest research-intensive acute care teaching hospitals and the largest employer in the region.

Community Members share their insights and recommendations, and participate in committee work with the Board of Directors to help inform decision-making and guide the organization’s path forward. They participate in Board orientation sessions, an annual Board retreat, and Board education sessions. The time commitment is 2-5 hours per month.

Who should apply?

If you are a community member with volunteer experience and an interest in advancing health care in our region, we want to hear from you! Ideal candidates will be comfortable speaking openly in a group, listening to differing opinions, and bringing forward a community perspective to advocate for improvements in care for all patients and families.
