May 1, 2020

LONDON, Ontario – London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is still providing urgent and emergency care to patients in London and surrounding area during the COVID-19 pandemic. Essential hospital services including the emergency departments remain open.

Physical distancing does not mean avoiding the hospital if you have a serious health concern. If you or your loved one is experiencing an emergency or serious medical injury call 911 immediately or go to an Emergency Department.

Please know that the hospital is a safe place to come for urgent and emergency care needs. Patients with a suspected case of COVID-19 are separated from other patients, and a number of protocols are followed to protect the health and safety of all staff, physicians, and patients.

Dr. Christie MacDonald, Interim Chief, Emergency Medicine at LHSC and Dr. Rod Lim, Medical Director, Paediatric Emergency Department at Children’s Hospital, are available between 11am and noon today to speak with media about the importance of seeking emergency care during COVID-19 and what patients can expect when they arrive at the hospital.
