Clindamycin

Indication

  • Treatment of infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and some gram-positive cocci

Administration

  • IV intermittent slow infusion over 30 minutes
  • To make 10 mL of a 12 mg/mL solution:
  1. Draw up 0.8 mL of the 150 mg/mL solution
  2. Add to 9.2 mL D5W to make a total volume of 10 mL

Adverse Effects

  • Diarrhea, colitis, rash
  • Neutropenia, thrombocytopenia
  • Increased liver function tests (transient)
  • Hypotension and cardiopulmonary arrest with rapid IV administration

Comments

  • Poor CNS penetration, not to be used in meningitis

  • 12 mg/mL patient specific syringe, prepared by Pharmacy
