Your Team

During your stay, you may interact with the following healthcare professionals: 

Psychiatrists 

Psychiatrists are doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating mental health disorders. They will lead your treatment plan, monitor your progress, and adjust medications as needed. 

Residents

Residents are doctors who are training in psychiatry and who are supervised by psychiatrists. They may assist in assessments, treatment planning, and daily care. 

Nurses

Nurses are your primary care providers and will be with you daily, monitoring your health, administering medications, and offering support. They provide a safe and therapeutic environment and are available to help with any concerns or emotional needs. 

Social Workers

Social Workers offer support to help you navigate the challenges of your mental health journey. They provide support with discharge and assist in connecting you to community resources after discharge. They can also help address any social or family issues that may impact your treatment. 

Occupational Therapists and Assistants

Occupational Therapists and Assistants help to develop practical skills for daily living, provide education on coping strategies, and provide support to practice cognitive skills.  They also implement devices/equipment as needed to maximize participation in activities of daily living.    

Dietitians

Dietitians will assess your nutritional needs, especially if you have specific dietary restrictions or health concerns. They will work with you to ensure your diet supports both your physical and mental health during your stay. 

Orderlies

Orderlies assist with non-medical tasks on the unit, such as transporting patients to appointments, handing out meals, and assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as grooming, bathing, toileting, and feeding.  

Recreation Therapists 

Recreation Therapists provide therapeutic recreational activities designed to support your emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being during your stay. These activities can include art, music, outdoor walks, or guided relaxation exercises to improve mood and reduce stress.   

Pharmacists

Pharmacists work with your treatment team to review and manage the medications prescribed to you, ensuring they are appropriate for your treatment.  

Clinical Navigator

Clinical Navigator supports the team by addressing and reducing barriers in treatment and complex discharge planning. They can assist with referrals for other programs or community services.  

Indigenous Navigators 

Indigenous Navigators provide culturally relevant support to Indigenous patients and their families, ensuring respectful and understanding care during admission and planning transitions back to community. Spiritual Care

Spiritual Care offers support to patients through spiritual and religious practices, providing comfort during difficult times and helping you explore spiritual beliefs as part of your recovery. 

Security

Security ensures the safety and security of all patients, staff/physicians, and visitors on the unit. They help maintain a calm and respectful environment by addressing safety concerns in a sensitive and professional manner. 

Psychologists

Psychologists schedule therapeutic and engaging group programming, facilitates groups, and oversee program development and evaluation. 

Learners 

Learners are students and interns from various healthcare fields (e.g., medicine, nursing, social work) who work under the supervision of experienced professionals. They assist in patient care and observe to enhance their learning and skills.
