HEMATOLOGY Hematology is the study of blood. The hematology laboratory will perform lab tests that look at the number of blood cells in a blood sample (called a Complete Blood Cell count or CBC). They also peform tests to evaluate the bloods ability to clot, called coagulation tests (to coagulate means "to clot"). A Hematologist is a physician who specializes in the treatment of blood disorders.
