Repatriation

London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is the only Academic Health Care facility in the South West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN). As a large referral centre, patients with complex medical problems that cannot be managed closer to home are often transferred to CCTC..

LHSC is committed to the prompt admission of any patient within our region who needs our expertise. Examples of programs located at Victoria Hospital include: Trauma/Burn Management, Thoracic and Head and Neck Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Oncology, Obstetrics/Women's Healthcare and Paediatrics/Neonatology.

In order to respond quickly to emergencies in our region, we need to be able to transfer patient's back to their local hospital as soon as their healthcare needs can be safely managed closer to home.  The transport of a patient back to their home or sending hospital is called "REPATRIATION".

Repatriation is only done when it is medically safe to do so. Although patients and their families may at times wish to remain for a longer period in London, repatriation is an essential component of our healthcare system.  Prompt repatriation ensures that the next patient who is in need of emergency medical care for a potentially life-threatening problem will also receive it.
