Creating the South West Regional Cancer Program Strategic Plan

To effectively create the South West Regional Cancer Program (SWRCP) Strategic Plan, there was broad engagement of multiple groups across the region through focus groups and a survey.

Focus groups included cancer leaders, frontline staff, patient and care partners, and physicians.

The survey was sent to:

  • All employees and physicians of the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre and Patient and Family Advisory Council members.
  • All regional site CNEs and directors for oncology, surgery, pathology and imaging for them to distribute to their staff.
  • All OBSP education event attendees and physician focus group attendees.

By engaging these groups, we learned that the top areas of improvement are:

  • Technology integration
  • Medical imaging
  • Psychosocial services
  • Coordinated access
  • Prevention programs

We also learned that the top strengths of the oncology system in the southwest region of Ontario are:

  • Expertise of healthcare providers
  • High quality of care
  • Comprehensive treatment options
  • Patient-centred care

Using this feedback, we were able to develop the SWRCP Strategy Map to guide the 2024-2028 strategy.

SWRCP Strategy Map

Through each of our actions of coordinating, standardizing, improving and engaging, we aim to deliver on our promises of equity, person-centred care and collaborative experiences when coming to any of the hospital centres in the southwest region for any of the services we support.

The outcomes we anticipate involve high-impact, high-quality, and sustainable cancer care now and into the future.
