Ride for Pat

Champion Bicycles organized the annual Ride for Pat from 2008-2015. This event was created in memory of Pat - a heart transplant recipient who was passionate about both cycling and organ donor awareness. Cyclists raised funds from their sponsors, then cycled either 80 km or 160 km, raising almost $20,000 for our transplant program.

Gift of Life Relay Walk

This awareness event paid tribute to organ donor families. Transplant recipients, donor families, living donors, health-care professionals and other supporters were all welcome to join this annual walk between London and Windsor, ON. Matthew Mailing Memorial Golf Tournament

The Matthew Mailing Memorial Golf Tournament was established to celebrate the life of Matthew Mailing, e young man who passed away in the summer of 2003 from complications related to transplant surgery. Find out more about the Matthew Mailing Memorial Golf Tournament.

Elgin-St. Thomas Transplant Awareness Golf Tournament

Elgin-St. Thomas Emergency Medical Services (EMS) held an annual golf tournament with the goal of promoting awareness about LHSC's Transplant Program and the need to consider organ and tissue donation. Find out more about the EMS Charity Golf Tournament.

25th Anniversary Celebration Day

On August 22, 1998 in downtown London, transplant patients, hospital staff and the public joined together in a community celebration to mark 25 years of transplants at University Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre. Find out more about the Celebration Day.

A billboard was displayed at several locations throughout London over an 8-month period to highlight the success of transplantation. Find out more about the billboard.

Brian DeVries Golf Classic

Brian DeVries was always a huge supporter of promoting awareness about organ and tissue donation. Over the years, this golf tournament has raised many funds to help hospital programs, including projects that promote greater public awareness about the need for organ and tissue donation. Carrie Newman

During her last months, Carrie sensed that the transplant would not occur in time to save her life. She spent her remaining energy planning how she could help others who were waiting to receive "the gift of life" through organ donation. She decided to leave a bequest to the London Health Sciences Foundation for organ donor awareness projects. Find out more about Carrie Newman's legacy.

Curling Bonspiel

For several years, the Transplant Awareness Committee at LHSC kicked off National Organ & Tissue Donation Awareness Week a few weeks early, holding a curling bonspiel in early April. This was a fun, mixed bonspiel for curlers of all ages and abilities. As the public and hospital personnel curl side by side with transplant recipients, the message that "Transplants Work" becomes very clear. Find out more about the Curling Bonspiel.

Donor Recognition Day

As part of the 15th World Transplant Games, a Donor Recognition Day was held to acknowledge all those who have given this extraordinary gift. The day’s events paid tribute to donor families who gave consent for their loved one’s organs to be donated after death as well as to living donors who gave a kidney or part of their liver to a family member or friend. Night at the Races

The Night at the Races has been held at the Top of the Fair Restaurant, Western Fair Raceway on several occasions. The highlight of the night is a special “race to save lives” when local celebrities team up with transplant recipients to pull the sulky with its driver in a 100-yard dash down the homestretch of the track. The night also includes a full program of harness racing, a great buffet dinner and a silent auction. Find out more about the Night at the Races.
